So it's expected that tonight (6pm EST) Sony will reveal/announce the Playstation4 (codenamed Orbis). There's a lot of rumors and things being said about what we can expect, and my friend & I are hoping they'll clear some of this up tonight. -Expect the controller to have a touchscreen of sorts, that's something that's been consistent in rumors & reports for a long while now. I've seen the prototype picture floating around - am hoping it looks more like the dualshock I know & love when it's all said and done -Sony bought cloud-streaming Gaikai (something like that). May have something to do with PS4 (saw a rumor about no backwards compatibility but streaming PS3 games, ugh) -Saw a mention the other day of a "Playstation world" replacing PS+, and that PSN(SEN) would become a bit more like Xbox Gold with premium subscriptions for whatever. Am hoping online play stays free for the masses though Anyhow, that's just some of the stuff going around. Can read more under Kotaku's PS4 tag& I'll be back here later with anything announced tonight^^

I've heard a lot of the same things, and seen the controller picture. While my stance on staying out of this new gen of consoles remains unchanged, I do watch with interest as we see this stuff being revealed. If anything it will help with my job.

So, my friend and I are pretty ready for launch day PS4s. God help my wallet. All links in this post lead to kotaku Show started off with talk of the specs Tech demos of Unreal Engine 4 and Havok's enginethe controller share button & sharing capabilitiesGaikai cloud service Play games as you download them. They talked about the console and such getting to know you, so things may be tailored to you. If they realize you're crazy for action games, they're going to try predicting your next buy off the network--so when you buy, you can instantly play because part if it's already ready for you/your system. You can play PS4 remote play with Vita - PS4 games on Vita. Sounds like it can work similar to the WiiU tablet - tv off or doing other things. The new Dualshock does have the touch screen, and share button. It also has a light bar to identify what player you are. I'm thinking player one blue, player two green, player three yellow, player four red - that sort of thing. There's also a headphone jack in the controller I believe they said, and the controller has "enhanced rumble" The controller also has a camera peripheral - can track the controller. They'll continue to have PS Move as I understand, but the controllers will be trackable as well with the bar. Am not sure they're continuing with the PS Eye Knack is the first PS4 game announcedKillzone: Shadow FallDrive ClubThe WitnessInfamous: Second SonQuantic Dream's David Cage talks about polygon capabilities. Indigo Prophecy's lead character was about 5000 polygons. Madison Paige(Heavy Rain) was about 10,000 I believe. Ellen Page's character in Beyond is 15,000. They can render about 30,000 I believe with PS4. Thankfully, it all sounds like something I shall have no issue in passing on. Wasn't sure if the details would sway me back but, so far, they don't.
A guy on the N64 Forever forum put in a pre-order for 6 consoles because some UK gaming site's mobile version had a glitch and showed them for 20 pounds (roughly $30). He's hoping they'll honor it but if not he'll cancel the excess consoles. lol

Wouldn't mind playing another Infamous, though I still need to play the first one.
Square Enix announcing a new Final Fantasy for the PS4 but we haven't got hardly anything on Versus in 6 years is disappointing, not even mentioning the whole "Lightning Returns" fiasco.
I never get a console at launch, between the amount of games I actually want to play being low, amount of games I still have to play on the previous gen of consoles, and price, which will come down by the time my second problem is no longer a problem.

I'm definitely bummed by the games and game series I'll miss out on (such as that new inFamous, new FF, the new Zelda for WiiU) but not enough to compel me to invest in the new gen. At least, not until those new consoles are mega cheap, and not until I hear more about used game play, digital downloads, backwards compatibility, etc.

As far as Backwards compatibility - far as I understand, PS4 won't be. However you can "stream" PS1, PS2 & PS3. The question is how we'l get full access to stream games we already own - cos I'm not repaying for 30-40 odd games, just no.
Someone posted a story to eurogamer - I didn't read it but they said that PS4 DOES play used games.
It's been confirmed that PS4 will not require online or always online.
I think pending info of how PS+ will transition (and PS4 online in general) - that'll probably be whether I try getting it sooner or later. I am excited for the games and whatnot, but I think it'll mostly come down to the online. I've sure got my moneys worth from PS+ already, between PS3 and Vita, but I want to know how everything will work with the new system & online

One thing is for sure, and it happens every time new consoles arrive: everyone is talking about it. I guess that means mission accomplished for Sony at this point. I will enjoy watching what happens.

Jack Tretton says PS4 games will only cost $60, will welcome more free-to-play modules and $1 games, etc hereKotaku also has a blip up saying Sony told a Japanese journalist that PS4 won't support CDs or super audio CDs
